In 1976 in Dublin, Ireland, a junior in high school, posted an ad on
the school bulletin board for other interested musicians to form a band. Four musicians responded and the band "Feedback" was
formed. They later changed the name to "The Hype" playing mostly early fab four and stones cover music. Winning a talent contest in 1978 was their first break, shortly after having
changed their name again to "U2".
Blatantly extolling religion and political change, playing to large audiences they carried their musical message unabashedly as symbolized by the popular video of
Bono metaphorically carrying a white flag while performing "Sunday, Bloody Sunday".
Today, U2 as or more popular than ever, reigns as a critically acclaimed force in todays' music scene, as Bono proudly displayed an american flag sewn into the inside of his jacket while
performing at the halftime show of the 2002 Super Bowl as the crowd roared its' collective delight. Paul McCartney performed on the same venue.
