Unfortunately for the other musicians on this page (and there
are some greats- Tom Petty, Gram Parsons, Wilson Pickett, Gene Pitney, Procol Harum and Gary Puckett) they have to
share the floor with The King - Elvis Presley.
For all the Elvis bashers, its a good time to ignore the rest of these notes. I am a
believer that Elvis transformed the modern music business nearly singlehandedly. What was a genre unto itself, Rhythm and Blues, became the playground
of Mr. Presley. In the beginning, many hearing him for the first time, mistook him for a black R and B artist.
He was controversial with his stage presence, dance and appearance. Many saw him as a rebel...the end of civilized society as they saw it. Television producers
would not film him below the waist.
All this in spite of his shy and polite nature...until you strapped a guitar on him and put a mike in front of him.
Yes...he was, and still is - The King.
